Shaded is a clean-tech startup focused on helping people adapt to a warming climate using passive solutions.

We apply design thinking to bring innovation to simple cooling technologies, some of which have been lost to time. Basic interventions like external awnings can reduce internal room temperatures by 10C. Even Buckingham Palace was once adorned with them!

With heatwaves impacting health, sleep, learning, and productivity, retrofitting homes and buildings against overheating risks soon won't be optional. At Shaded, we're bringing passive cooling tech up to speed with today's world - where many of us rent flats in cities and can't make permanent modifications to the buildings we live in.

Our first product is a retrofittable, detachable awning for sash windows (aka vertically sliding windows) with circular design principles embedded at its core. The idea for Shaded was inspired by conditions specific to the UK: hot only sometimes, large swathes of homes with sash windows operable from the top, and the existence of conservation areas and other planning restrictions.

By rethinking traditional external awning designs, we're expanding access to practical, sustainable adaptation tools to improve climate resilience.
